Millard South 61 Omaha North 13
The Millard South Patriots close out the dual regular season with a resounding win over the visiting Omaha North Vikings. In doing so, the Patriots move to 31-0 in dual competition on the year which is a school record for dual wins. The dual would start at 145 with a forfeit and finish with the feature match of the night at 138 between two top 3 ranked wrestlers in the state. Zac Charity would change the outcome from the finals of the Metro by defeating Wells from Omaha North on a last second takedown to bring home the victory in front of a raucous Millard South Crowd. Other than this premiere match, the dual was mostly uneventful as a shorthanded Omaha North would give up 6 forfeits on the night. Millard South would also be a little short handed with 3 ranked starters sitting out for a variety of reasons. Even short handed, Millard South would only give up 3 wins to the visiting vikings in cruising to the victory.
Head Coach Doug Denson commented:
“It was our last regular season dual of the year and the finish of the dual regular season for us; we were happy to finish the dual season in our own house! While dealing with forfeits isn’t ideal, we just can’t focus on what we can’t control.”
Coach Jay Meneely would add:
“These Seniors have won 84 dual competitions in a row which says a lot about what they have meant to the program. We are definitely proud of all their accomplishments. It was particularly satisfying to see Zac wrestle up to his potential in his match tonight. This might signify a turning point for Zac and at the right time.”
Coach Nate Olson would comment:
“We were a little shorthanded tonight, but we knew it wouldn’t be a deciding factor in the dual. A couple of our young guys were able to get a taste of varsity competition which is always a plus. It says something about our team depth. The atmosphere was amazing, and coach Denson was given a great farewell in front of the home crowd. Can’t get any better than that.”
Coach Denson would conclude:
“Now it’s time to focus on the prize. We are only a couple of weeks away from Districts and State so our guys are going to have to dial it in. We are going to have to ramp things up to finish where we want to finish! I don’t think this team will be satisfied unless they finish the season in victory!”
