Howells – Dodge Pool Tournament

Howells – Dodge Pool Tournament

The Patriots JV team headed to the Howells-Dodge pool tournament on Saturday, December 1st.  This tournament was set up unlike most tournaments the Patriots will be in the rest of the year.  Instead of traditional bracketing, this tournament paired wrestlers up in round-robin pools.  A wrestlers record in his initial pool determined which pool a wrestler would be in for the finals.  Most wrestlers found this tournament to be a real eye opener for their season.  It was many wrestlers first crack at wrestling in the high school ranks!  The Patriots have 7 freshmen wrestlers on JV, 6 sophomores, 2 juniors and 1 senior.  Wrestling teams from Class C and D varsity schools, the Patriots were able to finish in 4th place with 122 team points.

Several wrestlers were able to finish in the top 6 at this tough, opening weekend tournament.  Nick Jeanette and Devin McIntyre were able to overcome first match losses to win four straight to claim 2nd place in their respective weight classes.  Dayton Rojas was able to overcome a loss in his opening pool to finish tops in the consolation pool, winning him 5th place.  He also recorded 4 pins on the day.  The other two wrestlers who were able to finish in the top 4 were Cole Fisher at 182 and Mason Cully at 195.  Bot were able to score big points for the team which helped the Patriots finish inside the top 5 as a team.
